Description
“Lowen visists Grandad Pigeon every week and shares his love of racing pigeons. But Grandad’s old champ has gone missing, which makes him sad, and the rest of the birds are getting older and don’t race as much anymore.
Then a special veterans’ race tempts him to enter one last time. Lowen is both excited and worried as she learns how to prepare the birds for their big day. Can they pull it off?
A charming story about the infectious enthusiasm for pigeon fancying, passed down through the generations.
Grandad Pigeon is the first book from Paul Gunning, himself a grandad and pigeon fancier, who was inspired to write a story for his own grandchildren. The subject, of course, had to be about pigeon racing and pigeon fancying. Lowen is a little girl who regularly visits her grandad who she calls Grandad Pigeon. In this engaging and uplifting story, beautifully illustrated by artist Rob Page with 15 full-colour half-page drawings, we learn a lot about pigeon racing and, as if that were not enough, there is even a brief “pigeon facts” section at the end which, in this new edition of the book, includes five illustrative photographs of specialist pigeons.

Beverley Burke –
This charming, beautiful book is a pleasure to read. It’s a story of a Grandad and his beautiful granddaughter’s shared love of pigeon fancying. This lovely book is dedicated to my dad Sammy Smith. Paul the author and is uncle Sammy spent years loving and caring for pigeons, Chickens and shared a love of nature and the great outdoors.
A must read for any child and my dad who is 93 and blind adores listening to the adventures of Grandad Pigeon – highly recommended
